I was born and raised in State College, PA. and now after 25 years away, I have come home to be close to my family.
After graduating from high school I decided to become the world's greatest architect and started taking classes at Penn State. After a year or so of let's say average grades in all my classes it looked like the world was going to quickly, lose its greatest architect to the field of photography.
With help and support from those closest to me, I packed my bags in 1978 and left town to attend art school in Pittsburgh, PA. If memory serves me correct, two years later I graduated at the top of my class from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and started a 23-year career producing commercial photography for some of the largest department stores in the country.
The first couple years out of school I worked in the photo labs and assisted in the studios of professional photographers in the Pittsburgh area. My first full time shooting job was for a plastics manufacturer outside of Pittsburgh shooting such challenging assignments as paper clip holders and oil cans! Then came my big break shooting still life product photography for Gimbels Department Stores. After about a year of photographing everything from dinnerware to sheets and towels, I started shooting fashion assignments for them and never looked back. For the last 20 years I have shot fashion assignments and directed large studios for companies such as Gimbels, G. Fox, Filene's, Ames, Marshall's, and from 1995 to the summer of 2002 in New York City as Director of Photography and Fashion Photographer for Lord and Taylor.
I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some of the world's most beautiful and talented creative people including models, stylists, hair and make-up artists, art directors, as well as fellow photographers. My work has appeared in such publications as The Boston Globe, The New York Times, Vogue, Elle Magazine, W, Marie Claire, Bride's Magazine, and New York Magazine, as well as in countless (and I do mean countless) catalogs that you have received into your homes.
I could never thank everyone along the way that has helped me, but I would like to now thank those who believed in me and supported me throughout my career. Thank you very much Libbie, Susan, Raina, Joe, Gene, Karen, Jack, Tony, Monica, Dana, Steve, Susan, Kathy, Tom, Chris, Helene, and of course, my Mother and Father.
My Father was a very talented Sign painter in State College, and those of you old enough will certainly remember Noel Signs. I attribute my artistic skills to him, and my business skills to my Mother who kept the books, and raised two kids.
I have spent the last 25 years always putting quality and client satisfaction first. I look forward with excitement to continuing that dedication here in the State College area over the next 25 years.
Please come visit me at my Studio.
